Café Duro is a new spot along Greenville right next to its sister restaurant, aptly called Sister, which was previously The Grape. Duro Hospitality has taken over both spaces and is, according to a recent press release, embarking on a “rapid expansion” of concepts “unlike any other in Dallas,” which is a bold statement because we certainly have a bevy of concepts.

June is starting off strong with some of Dallas’ newest gems in the food industry. This month’s latest spots include your new summer hangout spot, a highly anticipated cafe on Lower Greenville, and still many more still to come this month!

And it’s not just because the weather is heating up. It’s because the past six weeks of restaurant openings have turned out the biggest and boldest restaurants we will likely see all year in North Texas.

Duro Hospitality, whose portfolio includes beloved hot spots The Charles, Bar Charles, and Sister, is proud to announce the opening of their new concept on Greenville Avenue: Café Duro. Café Duro is adjacent to its restaurant Sister and bring a unique personality to the East Dallas neighborhood.

Right next door to Sister, a cafe has quietly opened. It’s a neighborhood cafe with coffee, including their own in-house brand, which you can buy in bags, wine, paninis, and pizzitas. And it is very possibly the most charming spot on Greenville Avenue. Cafe Duro is from the Duro Hospitality Group, which is behind Sister and the Charles.

t’s been an unprecedented two years since Bon Appétit named Dallas the 2019 Restaurant City of the Year. But even through a pandemic, our city’s dining scene has persevered. With the overwhelming amount of recent openings (particularly in Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, and downtown), it’s easy to forget that many in the industry are still struggling, but Texas restaurants have been innovating to provide the comfort food — and cocktails — we need. Now, it’s time to look forward to the Dallas restaurant news ahead.

There’s a cosmopolitan new market-coffeeshop-wine bar open on Greenville Avenue: Called Cafe Duro, it’s from Duro Hospitality, whose portfolio includes beloved restaurants The Charles, Bar Charles, and Sister, and is open at 2804 Greenville Ave., conveniently adjacent to its sibling restaurant Sister.

Café Duro is located next door to Sister, which opened in the spot that used to house The Grape. The press release announcing the concept said it would offer coffee, pastries, wine, house-made pasta, pre-cut meats, charcuterie, cheese, pastries, paninis, home goods and more.

Corbin See compares creating a restaurant to making music. “It’s like putting out an album and watching it get played over and over again and watching people enjoy it,” he says. An interior designer at Sees Design, he’s one of four co-founders of Duro Hospitality Group, which has had a string of successes since The Charles made its debut in 2018.

In more expansion news, Duro Hospitality, the restaurant group behind other high-end spots The Charles and Sister, has plans to open three restaurants this year including a three-room hotel called Casa Duro and Café Duro, a cafe market adjacent to Sister on Lower Greenville.

Highland Park Soda Fountain was a Dallas treasure, first opening as a pharmacy in 1912 and later as a soda fountain. It closed back in 2018. Now, the old soda shop on 3229 Knox Street will find new life under Duro Hospitality Group, CultureMap Dallas reports. Duro was founded in 2020, and includes Design District favorites The Charles, Bar Charles, and Greenville Avenue restaurant Sister.

Duro Hospitality is a restaurant group that mainly aligns itself with high-end domains such as The Charles and Sister, and is seeking more endeavors to expand their production. The hospitality group is making great strides as it plans to open three new restaurant innovations including a three-room hotel soon-to-be known as Casa Duro and a cafe market named Cafe Duro in close proximity to Sister on Lower Greenville.

Good news for fans of the iconic Highland Park Soda Fountain, which closed in 2018. Well, maybe. The space is being taken over by Duro Hospitality, the restaurant group behind other high-end spots The Charles and Sister.

Café Duro will soon open next to Sister as a coffee shop and Italian market with pre-cut meets, paninis, and pastries. Next, the hospitality group is taking ownership of the historic site of the former Highland Park Soda Fountain on Knox Street, with plans to debut a new restaurant this fall — more to come on that later. And lastly, an unnamed concept is headed for the corner of Cole and Riverfront in the Design District in mid-2022.

New apartments and a café are set to open soon on Lower Greenville. The businesses are from Duro Hospitality, the group behind Sister, which opened last year in The Grape‘s spot, at 2808 Greenville Ave.

Duro Hospitality’s first leap into the hotel industry, it consists of three apartments above Sister Restaurant, which will be available for short and long-term stays. There’s one 1-bedroom and two 2-bedrooms, all renovated and completely furnished, including kitchens.
